I have noticed some odd things with the UK chart. To be honest I do not know if they have always been there or are part of V2 upgrade.

  1. Fishburn airfield label disappears from the chart at 1:27000  .. comes back at other scales. Cannot see same effect at other fields but does not mean there are none. True for PC & mobile on 3 devices.
  2. I can see tile edges to terrain blocks with no terrain adjacent. Specifically on mobile and may not apply to all devices  .. cd be a symptom of processor speed/memory??

Latest maps do seem quite a lot slower to redraw but perhaps thats because I am playing more  .. may not be an issue in flight.

While I am on, is it possible to make the plane the top "layer" so that when it straddles a zone boundary (say) its not bisected!

Cheers

Investigating a bit more it seems that the labels disappear if they "clash" with other map features. In fact you can make some reappear by moving the expected position of the label to the side of the screen so that it no longer "clashes". Another example is Kirbymoorside.

SkyDemon's label placement engine has always attempted to move labels around so they don't clash. In the event that there's nowhere to put a label such that it won't clash with another, the label isn't shown. Zooming in or out will usually result in the label showing.

I don't believe the other points you mentioned are anything that's changed in 2.0; in fact the mobile software hardly changed at all in this release. You may occasionally see very narrow gaps between terrain tiles after the map has been rotated; this is normal. The introduction of woodland areas and rivers may make map redraw slightly slower. We'll update our mapping engine later this year so that caching is used to make updates much faster.

Agree re zoom in/out to see label.

Re chart, no its whole tiles where terrain shading is missing  .. other features such as roads, woods, railways, airpsace are all there. Also zooming out can reval the terrain but you have to go out quite a way and lose the point of it.

Interesting; is the gap a slightly pinkish colour?

No its white/blank and whole rectangle tile(s).

My sense is that you have to scroll quite a way away before meeting a blank tile re terrain shading. Does not happen on PC but the memory is so much larger (4GB RAM). Suspect that in flight its no problem as adjacent tiles gradually come up as u fly.

All the same some effort may be justified  .. I can get all 3 devices to do it.

Where (geographically) are these tiles located?

Hard to be precise and its not always the same tile. But I do remember one around Bedlands Gate airfield (Cumbria). Suspect it when you scroll quickly about 50 miles away AND there is a lot of terrain shading.

Take a look inside the various folders within the TerrainCache folder in your SkyDemon Mobile installation. If there are any whose size looks suspiciously small, delete them. SkyDemon will then regenerate them (hopefully correctly) next time it needs them.

In fact it's safe to delete the entire TerrainCache folder if you want the terrain tiles recreated.
