High definition terrain data for PC?

I welcomed the availability of high definition terrain data on my iPad which I can download for regions I really need it. Concerning this, I have two questions:

1) These data take up significantly more space than the lower resolution one. Since I can select for which regions to download it, I can taylor the compromise between storage space required and increased usability to my liking. However, it would be great if I could somehow also "release" those regions of high definition terrain data when I don't need it anymore. E.g., it might be good to have HD data for a particular flight into mountainous regions. After completion of the flight, however, I might never again visit this area and, hence, don't benefit from its being HD.

2) Is there a similar option to download HD terrain elevations for the PC version of SD?

Thanks, -- Chris.

On a PC you right-click, I believe, to reveal the option.

There is no way to selectively release areas of HD terrain at present. We're still considering the best long-term option for HD terrain; it may eventually be a per-country toggle.

Thanks for the reply. A small suggestion: it might make sense to show the "Doenload HD terrain for this point" greyed out if there already is HD terrain loaded. I already had downloaded HD terrain a while ago for my region but wasn't sure. There is no way to positively check and provide feedback to dumb users like me. Having the option present but greyed out would solve this problem in an elegant way.

Is it not obvious from the crisp terrain in the background? That's the basis upon which we do not always show the option.

It wasn't to me. In this case the edge of the HD terrain region extended far into a rather flat area for which I also wanted HD terrain (just for the kicks of it). It wasn't clear by the looks of it.
