Leeds Bradford CTA has recently undergone a big change on Skydemon.
I can't find any reference to this in any NOTAM and it's a massive change.
There is now a big circle, labelled as SFC-FL85 seemingly started on 4th August 2015. It also refers to the removal of Church Fenton ATZ, which went a while ago.
I suspect that I have possibly misunderstood what Skydemon is trying to tell me.
However, at the bottom of the Skydemon 'window' , where it normally shows any zones that you are passing through, the 'new' CTA doesn't appear ?
So, have I missed a NOTAM, or is it wrong ? I've looked in the IAIP and I can't find anything.
Any help appreciated !

I too have been concerned about this. As far as I can ascertain:-
  • it relates to a proposal by LBA for an airspace grab
  • the circle shown on the SD chart is not representative of the proposed grab
  • the proposal has not yet gone out to consultation
  • no changes have been made yet
  • the proposal has not yet been submitted to the CAA
It is proving very difficult to find any information. Because the proposal has not yet been submitted to the CAA, the proposal document remains the property of LBA. Consequently, the CAA are unable to provide much information, and LBA are a being a bit coy about it.

About two weeks or so ago, a copy of the spiral bound multi-page proposal document appeared on one of the tables in the clubhouse, so it is obviously in (limited) circulation. I was about to depart on a planned flight, so only had a few minutes to skim through it and made a mental note to study it in more detail on my return. However, on my return, it had disappeared and in spite of extensive enquiries, I have not been able to find out who brought it in to the clubhouse or who took it away.

I am keen to acquire a copy, but I have not been able to find this document, or any reference to it, online.

There have a number of discussions on gliding forums, but all date back to autumn of last year, and I have not been able to find anything more up to date. I will keep looking and if I find anything, I will post it here. Maybe some other forum members know more? If so, please post it here.

In the meantime, attached is a copy of a Powerpoint presentation given by LBA to RAUWG at the beginning of last October which I have been able to source. It's not very helpful I'm afraid, and of course things may/will have moved on from there, but it's better than nothing, until I find something a bit more substantive.

Thanks Mike.

I did a Google search as soon as I saw this and found a lot of the info that you refer to.
I'm glad its not just something I missed in the NOTAMs.

Thanks again.

Barry.

There has been no change to the Leeds Bradford CTA in SkyDemon. Perhaps you're referring to a NOTAM in that area concerning the removal of Church Fenton MATZ?

Hi Tim

If you plan a local flight in the area, an 18 nm radius circle appears on the chart centred on LBA. Hovering over it brings up text which certainly does refer to the removal of the former RAF Church Fenton MATZ from LBA charts as you say, but it also brings up the following text, which is what concerns us:-

NOTAM: EGNM CTA Activated. Sea level – FL85, 18 nm (Note use of the terminology Sea Level as opposed to SFC)
Effective 04 Aug 12:21 Z
Until – Permanent

The relevant NOTAM in the list is headed EGNM CTA Activated, but only refers to the removal of the Church Fenton MATZ. All very confusing, bearing in mind that there is actually a proposal on the table for a major airspace grab by LBA, which as far as I can ascertain, has not yet been submitted to the CAA and has not yet gone out to consultation. Furthermore, I have been unable to find any NOTAM on the NATS / AIS website which refers to "EGNM CTA Activated"

You'll definitely see that NOTAM on the AIS website, though they may not decode the Q line which says "CTA Activated".

As it happens, I complained to NATS last week about this NOTAM, saying it had an inappropriate Q code. They have since republished it with a more appropriate one, so you will no longer see it on your SkyDemon map. Hopefully they will do the same for the one around Southampton, which I have also asked about.
