Railway - almost unnoticeable on the maps

Dear Skydemon team,
I was wondering why no railways are displayed on the map although I had ticked the box in the map settings ... until I noticed those VERY VERY THIN grey lines. Practically invisible in flight - I tried with 2 devices.
I like using railways as landmarks and propose to use the same thickness as assigned to country roads. Or can I adjust it in the program user interface and I just did not find it?
Kind Regards, Falk

I'm not aware of any charts which display railways with the same prominence as roads. Perhaps you are using a device with certain display characteristics that make railways hard to see; would you be able to post or email us a screenshot showing a section of map at 500k scale?

Hi Tim, here you are. While you may spot the railway south of Blumberg when the terrain information is switched off (but even that becomes very difficult in flight, as the line is so thin), it becomes almost impossible with activated terrain information.

You say, that you would not know of any other moving map navigation systems that displays railways in thicker way:
a) Flymap
b) Easy VFR by PocketFMS

The attached 500k screenshots are taken from a Samsung Galaxy TAB S 8.4", which has a pretty good resolution.
(Using my older 10" Samsung TAB2 it is even worse)

You may consider my feedback - I`d be very happy to see railways with the same prominence as the (red) country roads.

My preference would be for railways and major roads to be very obvious and for minor roads completely hidden.

Actually what I said was that no other chart displays railways at the same thickness as roads, which was what you proposed.

I can see what the problem is, though; you're using a very-high DPI device and our railways were measured in pixels rather than mm which is more appropriate. You'll definitely see them more prominent in the next update. In fact they are probably already this way in the latest Android beta, if you'd like to try that.

Railways are good navigation references. Even after a hundred years of disuse, all tracks having been removed, you can still see the outlines. Same with abandoned WW2 airfields in East Anglia.
It all depends: in the middle of the Sahara, even a cameltrack would be valuable navigation information. I prefer to have railway tracks, waterways and highways. That said I don't use SD to simulate a topographical map, I use the GPS part to help my navigation along airways or VFR routes around or through controlled airspace.
In VFR we should watch for traffic, navigation is secondary. I only watch the SD screen maybe a few seconds every few minutes, depending on the distance to next waypoint.
I have encountered too many aircraft that showed no sign of ever seeing me.
