I'm a bit confused about how the Georeferenced plates work in Navigation mode and the SD manual doesn't really cover this.

At times when I arrive at an airfield the plate is shown as an overlay on the chart itself, but at other time it isn't and only the runways appear. Is there a toggle in settings that determines whether the plate appears or not?

A plate only appears if it is available for the particular airport and after it has been downloaded. Otherwise you see the simple "locator style" beacon symbol.

Same here, I overfly or fly near some enroute airport the plate pops up sometimes, sometimes not even though they are all stored.
My home aiport does not pop up, even if it on the route I fly as departure or destination.
I have to load it manually. It is not really predictable in my perception.

It should pop up if it's downloaded, and the airfield is your departure or destination airfield, and if there is only one such plate to choose from. I believe we don't do anything automatically if there is more than one choice available.

No, SkyDemon stores them once you've downloaded them. Unless the plate is updated by its publisher, in which case you'd need to download it again.

understand now, my homebase LSZG has 2 georeferenced plates, an area chart and a VAC.
Was not aware of that behavior. I have the impression it was different in the past though.

I believe we used to load what we thought was the most appropriate plate, when there was a choice of two. We received some quite legitimate complaints about that, though, so now we do not auto-load when there is any ambiguity.

I have the same problem, using android tablet:
even when i download the plates again short before the flight, they do not appear.
The only way to see it, is to choose them from the charts menu. This is not so nice when flying. It happens also to airfields which have only one plate.
What is my mistake?
