I'm a bit confused about how the Georeferenced plates work in Navigation mode and the SD manual doesn't really cover this.

At times when I arrive at an airfield the plate is shown as an overlay on the chart itself, but at other time it isn't and only the runways appear. Is there a toggle in settings that determines whether the plate appears or not?

Same here, I overfly or fly near some enroute airport the plate pops up sometimes, sometimes not even though they are all stored.
My home aiport does not pop up, even if it on the route I fly as departure or destination.
I have to load it manually. It is not really predictable in my perception.

understand now, my homebase LSZG has 2 georeferenced plates, an area chart and a VAC.
Was not aware of that behavior. I have the impression it was different in the past though.
