Used Skydemon extensively this w/e. Some feedback:

1. All worked very well indeed  .. NOTAM warnings are particularly good (missed a 3000' model aero one right near home field & got warning. Great). 
2. I find the Heading Up display less responsive than I am used to with Garmin or PFMS. With them map constantly adjusts so that direction of travel is "straight up". With SD you have to be about 15 degrees from last redraw to trigger a change. I realise that there is a line from the plane icon and you can ensure its aligned to your track. But for me at least its less intuitive. On the other hand you may see it as a USP re Skydemon.
3. Vertical Nav. Still not sure I fully understand this. What controls the vertical scale? Is it the "show airspace between" setting?
4. Also re Vert Nav, is there any way of making the numbers showing vert limits of say an ATZ more readable  .. not just the text size but making them stand out more (colour, halo around numbers or some such). Usually does not matter too much as trajectory line shows if you will "bust" the levels. But sometimes the actual numbes are useful. This is especially critical if vert scale is say 0-4000' and there is a 3500' airspace limit.
5. Finally I confirm that 8410 is truly sunlight readable (v735 would have been US and anything below 350 NITs no go as well). But it was a very bright day.

The virtual radar instrument shows 3000 feet around the aircraft. We'll consider changing the way the vertical limits of airspace are drawn if we receive lots of feedback that the current output is not very readable. So far, this has not seemed to be an issue. You're correct that SkyDemon doesn't redraw the map until your heading has changed a certain amount; this is to save processing and battery power.

Do you know how many nits the 8410 screen is?

Thanks for the info re vert scale. Not sure I get it still. It implies that if you are flying at 3000' then the scale is 0-6000'. Certainly not how its working for me. Looks more like 0-4000' all the time.

Re clarity of numbers, this wd not matter so much if one knew for sure the scale.

Redraw  .. PFMS manages without any lag on moving map (but I agree after alerts the lag in PFMS is poor and v annoying).

Correction: It's actually 3500 feet vertically depicted from the top to the bottom of the instrument.

Mean sea level is shown as the bottom, until the aircraft reaches at least 2500 feet, when the display starts to scroll upwards. Thereafter 1000 feet are depicted above and 2500 below the aircraft position.

Another Trip feedback regarding version 1.4.4.

1. The route line (Pink) is too faint to see on a 7 inch touch-screen GPS. Easily confused with some Roman roads. My device resolution was set to 190.

I feel this line would be more easily visible if it was thicker and darker in colour (perhaps user defined as per aeroplane options).



2. I must have been missing the basics in SD use, as trying to set up a new route in flight was somewhat cumbersome. I found, in turbulent conditions, holding a finger on the origin of a new trip then a destination some 150-200 miles way, while flying and waiting for the map to redraw was ALMOST a no goer. My Touchscreen GPS is one of the fastest in the market (both acqisition and refresh rates). I tried to create a new route by: route- new it went back to map screen. I wonder if the option of simply entering the airfield designator EGXX is hidden somewhere, only I could not find it. EG_ _ needs to be there waiting for the final two letters to be entered by the user.

3. On a more positive note my highly experienced companions 10000+15000 flying hours were very impressed with SD and very keen to see the e-ILS, E-DME and the complete e-P-log with ETA's to all en-route waypoints, on the screen within the SD mobile!

Runways, it seems you're looking for the Route Editor which is under the Route menu. We hide information on basic functionality like this in the documentation!

Using the map for route entry can be a great time saver but if you're trying to plan a long route, the route editor is the place to do it by entering the route as waypoints. You can of course mix and match.

That was what I used eventually. A long reroute, may entail a few zooming adjustments, and a lot of re-drawing of maps. I just wondered if it would be possible to adjust re-routing (as a second option) by simply entering EG12 followed by EG34, then EG56 on say optional, Routes >New> Page with EG Blank Blank > confirm> Further EG Blank Blank...etc. The EG (bit) is automatically filled in and is dependent on the last aerodrome flown to.

Obviously situations like crossing country borders such as crossing the channel to France one needs to initiate the change by altering the first two letters (EG) as well to LF (for the French airports).



Please do not get me wrong. The present, finger initiated, direct map adjustments is a marvellous feature of SD.

What would you think of (for example) a "Quick Route" option which simply prompted you for two airfields, then plotted a route directly between them. After that you could use the route editor or the map to fairly quickly and easily add intermediate waypoints along the line.

This can be a happy intermediate option. I feel ultimately a simplified editable version of the flight plan with the essential information (as e-mailed directly about 2 months ago) would ultimately be very desirable within mobile SD (perhaps including sunrise and sunset times). Then all variables (ETAs, distances: Leg & cumulative, times: leg & cumulative, MSAs would be automatically updated, in-flight.



Having said that and until such time when this is introduced, the intermediate option would be helpful.



A word of caution may be appropriate at this juncture. I find a simplified (editable and therefore flexible) mobile flight plan as outlined above extremely useful, adequate and therefore addictive. Unless I am flying around the block or just to a nearby destination, I tend to use it EVERY time.
