When I run the installer for 3.0.5 on Windows 7, it fails due to insufficient privileges to access the default installation folder. I have already uninstalled 3.0.4. What's up?

I have no idea. This is likely a machine-specific issue and you may need to ask whoever owns or administrates the machine.

Well, as the owner and administrator, I only had myself to ask and after checking "have you switched it on?", I was stuck. Anyway, having tried it twice with the same result before reporting the problem here, I tried again just now and the installation succeeded.

The PC has been running continuously (apart from entering sleep mode), in the interim, with the same set of applications loaded, so I can't explain the glitch. Perhaps the installation folder was kept locked when the previous release was uninstalled and this eventually timed out.

As an aside, it would be nice if the installer was configured to upgrade the previous release automatically, rather than having to manually uninstall SkyDemon each time. The method is described here:

It actually is configured that way. Unfortunately bugs in the underlying Microsoft installer technologies mean that for a small number of people, this process does not work. That's why we had to revert to advising people to uninstalling the reinstalling. But we kept the automatic upgrading flag in the installer, so for most people, running the new installer will uninstall the old software automatically.

Perhaps the occasional update failures occur because SkyDemon.exe does not have a version number (neither does Divelements.NativeSupport86.dll). The rules followed by Windows Installer in that situation are described here:

Try adding a VERSIONINFO resource to those files.

I'm having trouble installing 3.0.5 also:

The file downloads, but when I click on the windows installer file, nothing happens.

I've tried rebooting and switched off all antivirus software, but nothing seems to work.

I'm using Windows Vista - 32bit system.

Any ideas?

I can only access the software through the online web software, but this doesn't have the full set of features.
