Hi

I have an Ipad 3 running SD. I am having oerheating problems and the Ipad turns off, this happens quite often. I was thinking of changing to a Google Nexus 10, and was wondering if anybody knows if this device is stable or more stable than the Ipad 3?

Thanks
Eddie

I don't know the answer but like you am interested to find out.  I'm currently exploring options and here are my thoughts.  The problem (?) with Android devices are they come out so regularly and there is almost too much choice!

I'm a die hard Apple fan and people suggest it runs best on the iPad. The iPad Mini 3G would be my ideal choice but outside my budget.  The overheating issue affects my iPhone5 in the UK on a sunny day if I leave it on a table outside.  I'd hate to think that could happen in the cockpit.

I've also yet to read what battery life is like on the iPad Mini 3G running SkyDemon - anyone know?

So I start exploring the Nexus 7 to find that people have all kinds of issues with performance (not just SkyDemon but in general with Androd 4.2).  That plus the fact the second generation Nexus 7 is out at the end of the month puts me off buying the current generation.

The second generation Nexus 7 has Android 4.3 but get this ... The GPS conks out after 10 minutes or so -- I read Google are currently investigating (and will no doubt fix) this.  Also reports of the touch screen missing gestures and the opposite .... Phantom touches!

Turning to ASUS I spotted the Memo Pad 7 HD, no 3G but I could probably live with that.  But wait, ohhh noooo, it only comes with Android 4.2 and all the lags that brings.  ASUS have no published roadmap to take it to 4.3 ....

So looks like I've gone full circle, back to the iPad Mini which I can't afford.

Can anyone sort out my scrambled head and put me back on the right track?

What I do know is I definitely want a 7" tablet. Smile

I'm using SD with a Nexus 10 for 3 months

No problem at all, very stable and no overheat.

I am running the iPad Mini 3G and have been for about 6 months or so, and I have had no problems, due to finances I can only run for about an hour out and then back in again, currently flying a Robin HR200 so the iPad is in direct sunlight due to the canopy of the Robins being completely clear. I have never experienced over heating problems and the battery is barely affected after 2 hours of flight. I have only ever used the iPad range, full size and now the mini and both have performed brilliantly. The new iPad mini is rumoured to be released in the next couple of months with Retina display so this will enhance the experience even more so my money is going on that. I have tried SD on the ground on a 7" Nexus but found Android is still very clunky, once converted to Apple products very hard to ever go to anything else, they just work! iPad Mini 3G and Skydemon - perfect match.

Hope this helps

If you are used to running it on an iPad, you will be disappointed with the Nexus.

This isn't any kind of Apple bias here, it's honest simple fact.

I'd suggest looking at an iPad Mini. I've been using one since launch and it has been flawless.

To give you an idea on endurance, I flew from Oaksey to La Rochelle last week (3.5hrs) and still had over 40% battery remaining on arrival.

If battery life is a concern, why not get yourself a charger cable with cigarette lighter plug for the iPad? I love this setup as I have a cig lighter outlet in the panel. If you don't, it can be added in a cinch.

The next release of SkyDemon for Android will bring a huge increase in performance.
