As a long term user of another software package I was stunned by the visual cleanliness of SkyDemon Plan.

I prepared the InFlight version, but cannot get it to work yet on two different systems.

1. On Navigon 8410, it does not start at all. I tried MioPocket, which managed to mess up my Navigon. Luckily I had a backup, so I could restore the Navigon

2. On my iPaq 4700, the program starts, rotates the screen from portrait to landscape, draws the side bar and the bottom altitude window, and then crashes with an exception.

Can either of these two issues be fixed? I would love to see the InFlight part work.

Alternatively, can SkyDemon Plan run from a self-contained USB stick (as 'some other rprogram' can)?

If you've encountered a crash with an exception, we'll need the details associated with it before we can do anything about it.

SkyDemon Plan can certainly run from a USB stick, assuming the PC on which it is running has the prerequisites. The chart manager would need to be run first to install any required charts.

Tim,

Regarding the USB function, I tried this and it works, sort of. What doesn't work is the chart manager. It only looks for charts in a subdirectory SkyDemon under 'My documents'. As the PC is fixed in the plane, it does not have internet access and putting the charts in 'My Documents' would be a manual task.

How hard would it be for the executable, when nothing is present under My documents, to look at a subdirectory (suggest \Charts) at the location where the executable was started? That way both the program and the associated data are portable. This makes at much easier to travel with the Plan version.

That's actually how it used to work, but by far the majority of use cases require the software to install the charts itself, which it cannot do to within the program directory because of normal security settings on Windows. This is why we changed it to look within My Documents.

I appreciate this is less than ideal for you, but short of suggesting perhaps a small batch utility to perform this copy operation for you automatically, I am unable to help.
