Hi,

It would be great if there would be the possibility on the iPad to toggle between the airfield name and the ICAO identifier?
Toggle via an option in the setup of Map layers would be perfect.
This would declutter the screen a bit more.

Best regards,
Robin

In general I like this idea, but what would happen for airfields that do not have an ICAO identifier?

Hi Tim,

good point. in this case it could be possible to use die country identifiers (first 2 digits) plus 3 digits ascending. This could be a solution for example for Italy, France,...
5 digits would also identify that's no official identifier.

Robin

...or do what my Skymap does – first two letters (country identifier) followed by two dashes. For example:-

EG--

I would also really welcome the ICAO identifier on the map, either permanent or toggled.

I just flew in countries like Finland and the Baltic states and pronouncing those airfield names is sometimes impossible. When asked for your position it is much easier to use the abbreviation. Otherwise, SD was a big help for this trip !

Since one usually knows in which country one flies, for me just the last two letters are enough (for declutter purposes).

Thanks, Asix

I like the idea of being able to select whether full names or ICAO names are shown for airports. I also recognize the problem that some airports (maybe even many, in some countries) don't have an ICAO identifier. But how does assigning them an arbitrary name (country ID + numbers or dashes?) help? You can't use that name to refer to the airport when talking to ATC. Why not leave the full name for those airports? Would that defy the declutter purpose?

All as above. Just flown back from Prague and several times were asked to give the ICAO code instead of trying to pronounce the full names

Ha - I wouldn't have even tried! Even in France, it's easier to say Lima Fox Blah Blah than making a poor attempt at pronouncing a place name.
