Are Skydemon charts for UK, France and Spain now a legal alternative to paper, or should we still be using paper and comparing it to the electronic charts before flying?

Well done Tim on getting iPad version out, it's so good I really want to drop the product I've been using on my pad until las week. I've been using AirNavPro (I love the downloadable UK CAA and IGN & Bossy France charts). If SkyDemon had the same option to buy these official charts I think that would top the product off.

Having been around at the time of your flyer forum beta testing I am thrilled to see how things have developed for SkyDemon.

I'm afraid we currently have no plans to offer printed charts as an option in SkyDemon; we would see that as a regression. There are plenty of products out there that offer them, though, and they are technically much easier to create so are ten a penny.

There's no legal stipulation that the chart you carry has to be a printed one; only that it has everything you need to safely conduct the flight. Personally I would want a printed copy of whatever chart I'm used to, in case of electronics failure.

True, I'm lucky and have a full IFR setup including Garmin 530, the iPad is just a backup so to speak in Nav terms.

I do sometimes admit for short or local flights to taking just my pad with the CAA half-mil charts on AirNavPro with me though.

Which European charts are updated using official data? What I'm asking is which charts for Europe are pretty much safe to use for flight planning purposes with SkyDemon though?

It's not a trick question! Just wondering because I'd prefer while in France or Spain and wanting to do a local flight to pull out my iPad and use skydemon to plan rather than pull out a load of paper, pens and ruler the plug it all into SkyDemon ... if you see what I mean. I guess there's a disclaimer with anything to do with this question, but 9.9 times out of 10, which charts are likely to be up to date and accurate for flight planning purposes?

Cheers,

Ian

P.S. AirNavPro is getting the boot I think...!

All our charts are compiled from official data. A few are marked as "under construction" which means we don't regard them as complete, but most are complete and perfectly valid for planning and navigation.
