Can Sky Demon be hard wired ie as per garmin 296/496 rather than using the internal battery or the cig lighter socket ?

The SkyDemon Mobile MD supports only 5v in via its mini USB socket. What you plug in to the socket doesn't matter as long as it conforms to the voltage specified and in the standard mini USB formfactor.
