This is what I posted elsewhere yesterday:

"It turns out there is a downside to buying a tablet with (at least) a nine year old operating system whose manufacturer hasn’t provided any updates for it in that time.

We updated the security certificate on our servers last week, as all sites do every few months to a year. In short, your SkyDemon software is working perfectly, our servers are working perfectly, but your operating system on your tablet no longer knows how to trust some new security certificates so it won’t let the two communicate.

I’m going to see if I can buy a different certificate next week that’ll still be trusted by those old operating systems. If successful, that will buy us an additional year. But it might be a good idea to ask for a new tablet for Christmas."

With any luck this morning a different certificate will be activated and these old devices will know how to talk to us again.

In what respect does it "not work"?

It will not connect to the Skydemon server, meaning no map update, no cloud access, and, if you happen to log out or reinstall, you will not be able to log in. It falsely gives the impression that you have no internet connection at all.
My Nexus has no problems with that and, looking at Tim's reposnse on FF, it does seem it's the certificate issue and he may be able to fix it. If not I'll try to recall what I did!

In what respect does it "not work"? My Nexus 7 2013 with Android 6.0.1 and SD 4.1.2.0 seems fine this morning. Perhaps this is because I had to manually load a root certficate about a year ago when one of the certificate authorities shut down. I thought this was also to keep SD happy but I may have got that mixed up. I can't recall the process to do that but Google was my Friend. I'm sure there are more geekie people here who will know immediately if that is indeed the answer.

It appears that a security update has broken Sky Demon on the most prolific Android tablet that people use, the Samsung S2 8.0! This is on Android 7.0 at the max. Those with lower versions have also reported that their Sky Demon is no longer talking to the Sky Demon server. Is there anything that can be done about this, at least for Android 7.0? I've had a look at the tablet security settings for this particular tablet and it appears you can manually load a certificate. Would this be something which could be applied as a workaround? If not, would it be possible to roll back the certificates until a more permanent solution can be found?
