Thanks. That seems to work. Not sure how the original licence file ended up as read-only, but at least we know what to do from now on.

2high2fastagain, spot on with the temporary fix, but adhawkins identified the more permenant solution, take the read only attribute off the licence file on the PC, delete the licence file from the card and sync. it works everytime now.

I've had to get my netbook out to put this post on because my PC is showing a html parsing error and won't let me respond to any posts. A bit annoying really because I've just reinstalled windows on it and any previous problems should have disappeared. I've just got to sort out the Skydemon problem on my netbook now which I'll put on a new post for ideas.

Thanks to you both, very much appreciated.

Could the source license file be read only too (i.e. the one in the SkyDemon folder on your PC)?

When it's copied, it could be copying the read-only attribute as well?

I've started getting the same problem with the 'access denied' message against the licence file. When I had a close look I discovered that the licence file was set to read-only on the SD card. When the read-only tag is taken off, it works fine - though the next type you synch it happens again.

Use explorer to find the licence file. Right click and choose properties, then uncheck the readonly box. See what happens.

Thanks Tim, unfortunately, I don't have a clue what it might be. I've tried restoring the PC back to previous dates, shut down the virus software, deleted SD and reinstalled it and even searched out any registry files. It wouldn't normally matter because I could sync with my netbook, but as bad luck would have it, that too, since loading the last version the netbook won't allow me to load any charts, when I try it just get 'Skydemon.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  The details then show Event Type:clr20r3 P1: Skydemon.exe. Anyone know what that means? I was just going to reformat my netbook but although I can find the serial number I've lost the XP home disc. Not a good week really!!

I don't think there is a problem with your license file, but something on your PC is definitely preventing SkyDemon from being able to update the file license.skdl on your SD card.

I did want to just add a bit to the above topic but I don't seem to have authority to do it.. Further to the above. I have used a completely different sdmmc card just in case there was a fault and it doesn't make a difference.

I have had a problem develop since loading the latest version of Skydemon onto my PC, which is probably a coincidence rather than the fault of SD itself.

I'm putting the problem on here in case anyone can advise, unfortunately my device is a chinese no name so quite rightly Tim can't support it, although I'm not convinceed that it is the device at fault.

The problem: With my card in the card reader, if I try to use 'Sync'  or  'Device connectivity options' and then 'change which charts are installed' all I get is

Access to path I:\Skydemon\licence.skdl' is denied.

I can however still send a route to the connected card reader, but only the Notams transfer and not the TAFs/Metars.

In an attempt to cure it I deleted the licence file from the card and then all is well I can  'sync' with the sync button or alternatively use 'Device connectivity options'

and change what charts are loaded. I do get the  warning of course saying " The device connected to this computer has not been registered, would you like to register it now etc etc. If I press 'No' or Cancel' it still all loads and likewise if I press 'yes'. Once it's registered with the licence file back on the card, I'm back to square one. Could there be a problem with my licence file? I have turned off the virus software, reset my PC about 6 times  and  reinstalled SD quite a few times.
