When showing PAW contacts on SK-De, some are swept wing jets, and some are straight wing ‘prop’ aircraft symbols. But the aircraft itself may be a jet in both cases.

Do these symbols mean anything particular? Will there be any more symbols, for microlights, gliders and helicopters etc? I see that Flightradar24 already shows many different types.

There are already symbols for gliders, microlights and helicopters. It all depends on what PAW sends us. They will be able to give you more information about when they're able to provide specific airframe type information.

One other thing.

The S-D manual says that conflicting aircraft should have extended tracklines, but I am not getting those. Is that another PAW issue? The conflicting aircraft on S-D do have speed and track data.

Can you post a screenshot of a conflicting aircraft? Are you testing this in simulate mode?

On this pic from your user manual, the conflicting aircraft has an extension-line indicating speed and track. The PAW ‘compass-radar’ display shows the same speed-track extension line. However, when I display traffic on Sky Demon there is no track-speed extension-line. Should there be?


As an aside, the conflicting aircraft in this pic has turned red, indicating a conflict is imminent. At what is the height-distance-time envelope for an conflicting aircraft turning red? (Indicating imminent danger, as your manual calls it on page 84.). Is this the same envelope as we select on PAW for the Mode-C contacts?

I believe the trajectory lines only appear for targets at approximately the same altitude as you. There's no point displaying them for other traffic.

SkyDemon uses TCAS-like conflict detection algorithms. An urgency situation is measured in terms of the number of seconds before a conflict is likely. Like TCAS, this is not a fixed number but variable depending on the nature of the closing situation, but will be between 30 and 60 seconds.
