I use an iPad air2 with cellular.
However for GPS you do not need to have a SIM card to be inserted, GPS will work anyway.
I personally do have a sim installed and took the cheapest Data only subscription so I can always access the weather or file/update a Flightplan when needed, but as said it optional. A kneeboard in which you can hold is if very convenient during flying.

I fly with an iPad Air using its internal GPS. No problem, flawless performance so far.

Nexus 7 2013 (it has GPS/GLONASS), I use a RAM mount to secure it to the yoke and use it in portrait mode, the screen aspect ratio doesn't give much forward vis. if mounted landscape, unlike the ipad mini.
If I need to load data in the plane, either for late weather updates or plates, I use my phone to provide a wifi hotspot. I fly with a printed skydemon plog and plates

I run it fine on a fairly old refurbed Asus Memopad 173X which I think was about £50 !
It runs faster on my iPhone 5S but for £50 the Asus was a bargain.

Does anyone have experience with using skydemon on a Nvidia Shield K1 or a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (both 8 and 9.7 inches).
I need a new tablet (preferably between 8 and 10 inches) and these are the only tablets that really caught my attention lately.

Hi everybody,
any new recommendations which tablet to use in 2017?
I'm new to SD‌ and currently using my old WindowsPC (2013) and an iPhone SE (2017), both working perfect with SD - congratulations to the SD-team :-). Now I would like to buy a new iPad‌ (to use instead of the iPhone SE, because screen is to small), but which one?
I'm thinking of a 9,7" Multi-Touch Display, but do I need:
Wi‑Fi + Cellular or just Wi-Fi? 32 or 128 GB? Anybody can help?
Anyway, the coulour should be space grey ;-).
And are there any good alternatives‌ with more or less the same specifications but for a lower price?
I would use the device only to go flying, so no other gimmicks (special camera or so) are needed.
Thanx for any good‌ tips.

I have been using SD on iPads for years. All my iPads were 3G/4G models with a SIM installed and using the internal GPS. I fly an ArrowCopter, so reception is not a problem. Currently SD runs on my iPad Air 2 and my iPhone SE.

My personal impression from reading the formum is that iOS devices run more stable than their Android counterparts.Updates of the system and/or SD seems to pose fewer problems. But there are staunch supporters of either camp.

Greetings, -- Chris‌‌

For you information, I'm perfectly fine with SkyDemaon on an old iPad Mini (Generation 2, first on with Retina screen, acquired in late 2013) without integrated GPS (I have a Bad Elf pro GPS small device connected via Bluetooth).

As backup devices, I have a Android tablet (LENOVO Tab 2 A7-10‌ which costed me 60€, 7", low resolution 1024x600) + Smartphone LG G4 + iPhone 6S.

‌‌All devices are synced through the SD Cloud (profil, route, plane).
