I'd certainly argue for fewer lines in the fuel estimator. For example, why are taxi, takeoff and landing separate numbers? They are all simply fixed quantity allowances which are added together. The other fields do make sense: cruise and diversion are based on planned distance/time, holding is a time-based allowance, and contingency is a percentage addition.
Adding any more detail runs the risk (IMO) of giving a false impression of accuracy.
