I prefer the new separate zoom in/out buttons but where can I now find "Zoom Route" and "Zoom Default" functions (the latter I used a lot)

Tim,

I reloaded a recent 400 NM 20 leg route on my Nexus7. To scroll the vertical radar to the destination takes about 4 swipes plus the tapping on the destination. Doing a longpress on the Home button would feel much more direct. Think of it as 'Home' and Shift-Home, would be quite natural and easy to remember.

There are reasons I want to study the destination area while in cruise, to learn about alternate reporting points not in the flight plan, to study the geographic features around the airport, etc. You would probably show the arrow that allows you to return instantly to the current position on the route.
