Group: Forum Members Posts: 11, Visits: 90	Hi, while comparing my printed official DFS ICAO charts with the SkyDemon charts in the PC Version (style set to "German DFS VFR Charts") i noticed several "minor" discrepancies. I'm now wondering what you sources are and how carefully i need to compare maps before getting airborne? Here are two screenshots, in the first the are some diffs in C Airspace (just very minor but especially C airspace needs to VERY accurate from my point of view and i'm a little afraid there might be more and not that minor differences?). In the second screenshot i'm wondering about the green circle, what's this? This is not shown in the german DFS chart? I'm also missing some of the information shown in the DFS-Maps: - Minimum safe altitude figures (another thread suggests this is already being worked on?) - Type and elevation of obstacles: In the DFS charts there are several different icons for different obstacles (towers, powerplants, wind turbines and so on) and the elevation of the obstacle is printed directly above the icon which makes identifying them while in flight MUCH easier. It's also easier to look for good landmarks as a reference point while planning the flight. You've got that data because the popup shows it, why not directly show in the map? Maybe as an optional layer? - And a very minor one: Woods, currently roads, railways and rivers/lakes are available, but not woods. Maybe this could be also added as an optional layer? Group: Forum Members Posts: 8K, Visits: 9.1K	Your first screenshot shows the airspace in SkyDemon which is literally depicted directly from the official source data, which is the German AIP description. When the AIP description is not very good, you sometimes get little jagged edges like the ones you see. A cartographer designing a paper map may choose to "smooth out" these edges but SkyDemon is perfectly accurate in this regard. Feel free to examine the AIP yourself and you should see that it is our depiction of the airspace which is correct according to the official definition. The green circle is a NOTAM. This is obviously dynamic data which is impossible to show on a static paper chart, and is one of the great benefits of SkyDemon. Grid MSA figures are an option in the forthcoming version of SkyDemon. Types of obstacles are not currently included, you are correct, besides windfarms anyway. We may add more types as a result of popular demand. I'm afraid we have no plans to draw the outlines of woodland on our vector charts.

Glad to hear MSA figures are upcoming, now just the missing obstacle data would be really nice. Precisely holding my finger on my iPAD to determine height and type of an obstacle is no real fun in a Cessna 150 Kind regards Jan

Group: Forum Members Posts: 538, Visits: 2.2K	Regarding woods being depicted on SD charts: I don't think this is merely a minor issue and would greatly appreciate wooded areas being shown on a map layer. When I plan a flight I am very conscious about choosing a route that minimizes exposure to unlandable terrain. Having forests shown on the map gives me a lot more valuable information to choose a suitable route. Greetings, -- Chris.
