Hi,

Can anyone confirm, after paying £239 in total, the initial purchase, upgrade to the Navigation version, 2 x AFE subscriptions (2012/2013 one sub which is only 3 months old), 1x Pooleys plate subscription, that, now my first year is up, I can no longer access ANY function within ANY part of skydemon on the Ipad?

For some reason, I was under the impression when I initially bought skydemon (although it seems I only hired it), I would still be able to access the software, but in an Offline mode...

Did something change or am I just incorrectly remembering things, and yes, £239 is what I paid for a year hiring the software with nothing to show at the end? Not even a version that can't update.

Hi Tim.

I did reply to the moderator privately with these points, but as a reply has came publicly I will this time reply publicly.

I am sorry Tim, as you will see, the page you point to does not answer my concerns.

I guess I still expected I would be able to run Skydemon on my Ipad in an constant offline mode, non update-able , no access to airfield plates , met , Notams etc, after paying £179 for the privilege of using it for one year.

Can I ask, when buying a skydemon Mobile MD, must a continuous subscription be made to continue using this product after 1 year.

From your site:

Device Cost: £399 inc VAT
Includes: FREE SkyDemon flight-planning subscription (for PC, Mac and iPad) and one year of chart updates, software upgrades, airfield plates, NOTAM and weather.

What I see here is a list of the features I thought the subscription (included free for the first year) covers.

Software is included free with the MD, and also a years subscription.
Does the Skydemon Mobile MD fail to start after a year, if a subscription is not continued?
It is not clear if this is so or not.

I am sorry, but it is also not obvious or stated anywhere, Skydemon will not function in any way once a year is up, should a subscription not be continued.

As the Skydemon Mobile MD page states, a subscription is needed to access the chart updates, software upgrades, airfield plates, NOTAM and weather.
That does not imply the software will not run.

It does state clearly when purchasing plates, that a Skydemon subscription is needed to use the plates.
I do not question that.
I was aware of this when I subscribed to the plates for AFE 2012, Pooleys and also when I could no longer access the 2012 plates, AFE2013.

What I wasn't aware of, and it isn't clear or stated anywhere, "no part of Skydemon will function after the subscription lapses."
The text on the MD page implies to me that will chart updates, software upgrades, airfield plates, NOTAM and weather will not will function.

I also thought it would remain in an 'offline' state.

With a yearly subscription cost of £89 after year 1, the first year costing £179, it is not unreasonable to assume that the £90 difference is for the 'purchase' of the software, as is the norm when purchasing software.
I cant see anywhere it says I wont be able to run the other 'offline' aspects of the software I thought I had paid for.

The worse aspect of this is, I would have renewed my subscription the first day prior to going to fly after the subscription lapsed, but after realising I couldn't access what I thought I had paid for, I now feel misled by your website and how you have sold- sorry, hired out -the skydemon software.

Being unable to log into Skydemon has shown me the £179 was simply for one years rental of the software.
I would not have paid or bought into this had I been aware of it.

If I am missing some part of the picture in my argument or my logic is wrong then I am all ears.

M.

The subscription model is described in great detail on the purchase page:

http://www.skydemon.aero/store/subscription.aspx

Subscriptions to any plate products are independent (time-wise) of your SkyDemon subscription but require the SkyDemon subscription to be kept live in order to work. This is explained on the relevant plate purchase pages:

http://www.skydemon.aero/store/afeplates.aspx

A full SkyDemon subscription itself costs £179 to get started and £89 a year thereafter.
