Fully agree Liam548 - I asked for this feature yonks ago, but it wasn't thought necessary. I disagree.

For people who stick within their own country's boundaries, then it won't matter to them. They won't have to file flight plans. But, when crossing international FIR boundaries, where filing a flight plan is an absolute necessity, then it certainly does matter.

If I can't get a WiFi signal and have to submit a paper flight plan, then it would be nice to have the FIR designator clearly and easily identified on the SD charts without delving into the SD FlightPlan process or having to look it up from the paper charts or AIP's or whatever.

In practical terms, if the paper chart cartographers can fit it in, a can't see why SD can't do so as well, especially since SD can expand the scale display so as to provide more space for a little labels with EGHH, EDGG , LFFF etc etc.

Just my humble thoughts.

I fly regularly across international borders. I have not yet come across a good example where the international border wouldn't also coincide with the FIR boundary. And there are usually are ample reporting points right at the FIR boundary to be used as border crossing points in flight plans.

Sorry chaps, I think you are missing the point - What is being asked for are NOT border crossing points/IFR intersections/VRP's - There are plenty of them for stipulating your crossing point.

What IS being asked for are the FIR ICAO identifiers (e.g. EGTT, LFFF, EDGG, EBBU, LHCC, LYBA etc) to be shown on the charts for easier (ie Lazy!!) information for flight plan submissions - Yes! we know the FIR identifiers can be found if one goes through the rigmarole of an SD flight plan, Yes, we know you can find it in AIP's (And where do you find them in a grass field in the middle of Slovenia?). It would all be far easier if little FIR id's were to be shown on the SD charts (Jus' like wot Jeppesen do alongside the FIR region boundaries on their charts).

It's two button presses to get to the flightplan form, where even if you don't want to use SkyDemon to file your flightplan, you have everything you need to fill out a paper form. Not exactly a rigmarole, and certainly no justification for us putting text onto the charts which is useless to everyone except those wanting to fill out a paper flightplan form.

As always, I stand to be corrected Smile
