Whilst happily flying along using Skydemon today, my iPad got too hot and shut itself down. Fortunately I had a paper plog and had the chart handy. I put the iPad near a cool air vent and had it working again in 10 minutes.

I appreciate this problem is NOT down to Skydemon, but was wondering:
1) Is it possible for SkyDemon to read the internal temperature of the iPad, and issue a warning if it gets close to the shutdown point?
2) I suspect a lot of the heat is generated by running the display. We do not look at the display constantly, outside is far more important. Would it be possible to have a button at the edge of the screen that would dim the display, but leave everything else running? A tap anywhere on the screen would then bring full brightness back.

I know the problem of overheating iPads although it hasn't happened to me yet. You need display brightness at a maximum for readability but that also creates a lot of heat. Therefore I close the iPad cover when there's nothing much going on during the flight and it's all about flying straight and level. Turning it back on is as simple as flicking the cover open. You might do the same without a physical cover by simply placing a magnet near the right hand side long edge of the iPad.

I wonder if it were possible to design a heat sink knee pad for the iPad. Something with a metal back plate from copper (best) or aluminum (not bad) and have it in sufficient thermal contact with the backside of the iPad. There would have to be some cooling fins along the top or side of it.

No, I do not believe we can read the temperature or do anything to help with the iPad overheating problem from within SkyDemon.

If you close the cover it sleeps SkyDemon, so you lose the logging information which is unfortunate.

I don't seem to be the only person who has suffered this weekend:
