I have recently purchased a SD Mobile MD and its great. Its ideal to just chuck in the bag and go fly. Before flight, the Mobile MD is synced with SD Plan via USB cable to throw across all relevant NOTAMS/Maps/route etc for the day. What i would like to get away from is the necessity to lug around the cumbersome laptop to perform said task before flight. What, if possible, is the smallest, minimalist way of performing the "update brief"? I would like to make the laptop redundant, especially on a several day trip in a small aircraft.

Not complicate this, but can you load the 'brief' onto flash card from Ipad (via adapter) and plug card into Mobile MD to perform update? Just one idea to keep it small and minimal.

Does the Mobile MD have WiFi? If so, then it can self-update NOTAMs and Weather but not maps.

There's no way of using an iPad to facilitate this unfortunately. You could get a cheap small netbook off eBay - that's what I used to use before I changed to the iPad version.

There's no alternative but to plug it into a PC of some kind, even if it's a small netbook. The Mobile MD does not have its own internet connectivity of any kind. You only need to do this if you wish to load the latest weather and NOTAM information onto the MD.
