user defined waypoints on flight plans can be expressed as a lat/long OR as a radial and distance from a VOR. In many cases it is easier to have it expressed as a radial/distance rather than a lat/long, for example the target airfield may have a VOR on it however one wants to approach from a specific side or something so one would maybe setup a waypoint 5 miles from the VOR on the 270 radial, it would then be much nicer to have that printed on the PLOG and flight plan rather than a (fairly) meaningless lat/long.

Perhaps one could have a setup option that if a waypoint is within xx miles of a VOR then use radial/distance from the VOR to define the waypoint rather than lat/long.
