It would be great if the present position was marked more conspicuously. Perhaps a flashing red dot.

Also I find that the place names are hard to read (prob cos I am 50 and the near sight is getting dodgy). Would it be possible to make them a font size larger as many pilots are of a similar age or older.

thanks

A number of people have asked for the font size used for map names to be increased, and a number of people seem to think it's ok.

Can you read the place names on your CAA chart if held the same distance away from your face?

No, but I can on my gps ! How about a more conspicuous indicator of present position.

Cheers

Tim,

Regarding text size, your question seems to suggest that the InFlight text size is similar to a CAA chart. It isn't, or at least it isn't on a Loox N560. Similar place names are around 30% smaller on the the Loox.

Perhaps a more significant difference in terms of readability is that on the chart it's very easy to distinguish between place names and airfields - the latter are in block caps, a different colour and a larger font size. These differences make it very easy to read at a glance. On Inflight they're all the same, and this increases the time taken to make sense of the information.

Bottom line is that increased text size would be useful, but more differentiation between different types of information would be even better.

Tim - a really great product but me too on the cursor in particular and text size too. Using a Loox N560 - memoy maps is clearer, but not as good overall.

Thanks

We do use colours to differentiate. Using block capitals is an interesting idea. Could you post a couple of comparison screenshots? I have no experience of Memory Map but if it's managed to make names more conspicuous (ignoring text size for the moment) I'm sure we can do the same.

Right, you're stretching my computer literacy to its limits, but with luck here's a photo. It's of my Loox sitting on top of a CAA chart, with both showing roughly the same area (South Norfolk) at roughly the same scale. Even allowing for the problems of photographing an LCD, it's clear that the text on SkyAngel is notable smaller than on the chart. The comparison with the chart also shows that the graphic design of the chart makes it much easier to discriminate between the different features. For reference, the Loox screen is 90mm corner to corner.

Hope this helps to illustrate the point.

It's interesting that you should say that, given that our chart design is so similar to the UK CAA chart design, in terms of pens and colours used. In this week's release we've changed airfield names to be slightly larger, bold and in uppercase, and we'll see how everyone likes the change.

To be honest, in that photograph, the town names look like they're pretty much identically sized between the two.

You'll have to take my word for it that the place names on the chart are bigger than on the display! As I said however, I think the differentiation between place names and airfield names will help a lot, so I look forward to the next release.

I think there are 2 things - the size of the plane / cursor showing the position and the text size.

For the first this would be really useful for this to be bigger / more obvious as it is difficult to see unless the PDA is very close (and one wouldn't want to mount it too close)

For the second - I can see the problem with large text taking up too much of the screen, so not so concerned - but maybe a saga / geri... version might be the answer! (and I'll subscribe in that case)
