Hi

I have moved to 3 with the unlimited bundle...i have the iPhone 4s and tethering works well, i have also nor purchased the GPS unit which links via bluetooth.

i have had no problems in the air althogh its early days...the reception on the ground for normal calls is a bit weak...

If you go to

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14582499

you can see 3G coverage in your area, top left filters by provider. I'd pick the best one for home, or home airfield.

But "3" are very good ...

Unfortuneately 3 does not support Visual voice mail which is one of the attractions of the iphone! The only carrier that does is O2. To have an iphone which is essentially only part functional is a deal breaker for me so I went with O2.

Good coverage and data allowance is fine buy your iphone and go for sim only package on a 1 month rolling contract.

Have used 3 mobile very successfully for about a year, and more recently have been flying with iPad tethered to it.
I have the 3G iPad, for gps, but have not bothered to install 3G card because it works fine tethered to my iPhone ( using personal hotspot and wifi connection).
Great to get me METARS and TAFS come in as you are flying and now to be able to divert and pull up plates.
