In the UK it is sometimes difficult to get a VFR FPL opened when airborne due to very busy FIR frequency or the ATC units unwilling to help.
Would it be possible (or feasible) to have a "OPEN FPL" feature in SD that can be activated from the app? Thinking it could be something to "click on" when ready for take-off, or 10 mins from departure etc.
Would also need some fairly quick response back by e-mail of confirmation that the FPL has been opened.
Obviously cell phone coverage required from cockpit or wifi connection in the clubhouse/terminal building.

Why not call AIS by phone when lining up by yourself?
There absolutely is no need to block radio and burden ATC/FIS with calling AIS ...

MarkusM,

Very impractical in UK and probably won't work. We don't have a system like they do in, for example, France.
Currently in UK, if your departure airfield can't or won't open your flightplan the only alternative is to call the FIR.

Tony, I am surprised. NATS Swanwick when called always was very helpful and took my departure times.

Marcus,
I will make further enquiries! Maybe things have changed in the last few years.
