There is one feature in SD which is really improving flight safety: the dynamic glide range purple circle.
‌There is already some AI (Artificial Intelligence) in it: size changes based on the altitude and aircraft glide ratio + shapes will reflect terrain and wind influence.
‌I would recommend thinking of adding color depiction as follows:
‌- No airfield located in the ring while flying: ring colored in red.
‌- One or more airfields located in the ring: ring colored in green.
‌‌- One or more airfields located in the ring, but close to the edge: ring colored in orange.
‌In case of engine failure, color of the ring will immediately help the pilot to take a decision on what to do (heading to an airfield, or looking out for an emergency place to land, or ... parachute).
‌Next on potential improvement could be that when displaying the list of nearest fields (pressing long on SD logo), airfields names could be highlighted with the same color code.
‌Finally, when planning a route, the purple route line could dynamically have the color changed based on the rules above (both on the map and virtual radar view): this will help pilots to plan a route where safety altitude is priority based on gliding distance to the nearest airfield. Route or Altitude will then be changed based on the color in order to minimize red sections. Most probably a little bit challenging to add this last feature...
