Have been playing with the new print centre.

Ideally I would like to print certain items such as airfield plates and plog to A5 paper and en-route chart to A4. Can't find a way to save these settings, it resets back to the default settings.

Any ideas

Cheers

Gavin

That's right; we do not currently attempt to save page settings per print output type.

The ability to retain a default set of page/printer options would be a valuable time saver.

Here's an idea too for saving paper and colour ink and not having loads of paper in the cockpit:  An alternative to printing full page maps would be an option to arrange and print on a single page "strips" of map with track vertical and a selected band (width) of map detail either side of the track.  These would be broken at turning points and positioned parallel to one another on the page with track (angle) printed at the top of each strip.  A friend of mine does this using digitised half and quarter mil maps and the results are impressive.  I could email a mock-up if there's any interest.

Notwithstanding ..........SD remains outstanding and best in class by far.

Oh yes ...... and ...... if you are able to port to Androide O/S in not too distant future you will I think attrack many more users and stay well ahead of the pack!

Many thanks to all at SD!

The only way I've found so far to print A5 is to put in the print page: Pages 1,1 and then in the page per sheet put 2. This means you get your A4 document printed twice on A4 so you cut them in half and you have A5.

I hope I've explained that properly, if not google it (as I did some days ago) for a clearer idea.  It's a waste of paper but at least you get your info on an A5 sheet.

I set mine to landscape, two pages per sheet and then print.

Take the paper and put it back in the printer the other way up and repeat. Fold in half - you've then got both bits on one piece of A4.

Hi Tim,

Raising this again, as I am finding the printing of the PLOG to be something that lets down an otherwise excellent package. Since the vast majority of pilots use an A5 kneeboard, then by default we have to produce an A5 PLOG. Even when I select to print 2 pages per sheet on a landscape setting, the text is far too small to be of use when airborne. Would it not be possible to produce a template that replicates one of those commonly in use and widely accepted such as the AFE plog booklet?

Thanks

Gavin

Gavin, lots of SkyDemon customers print an A5 plog from SkyDemon and seem happy with the font size. I would therefore like to hear from others about this.

We do have plans to make the font used for printing (including its size) configurable, but within what limits, I don't yet know.

Hi, I have encountered the same problem when flying the 172 with a yoke its OK as I use an A4 folder with inserts. But I have been flying a Robin of late and its now a problem using the later so to over come this, I print out as normal then fold the A4 landscape printout fold in half then cut put each half into my A5 folder. It’s OK but a larger print would be nice with the A5 option on SD as its far to small.

Personally, I have always liked the NavLog produced by Navbox. It gives the 2 key numbers you need for map & compasss flying  --  Heading Magnetic & Time in Minutes  --  in large boxes in red if colour printer.

What is more if you set yr printer to 2 pages per printed sheet, this gives ideal kneeboard size. I can post a picture if any wants.

Have to say I rarely use map&compass so this is not a normal need for me. But if all systems failed, I do agree current PLOG is not ideal  .. time and mag hdg need to be next to each other.

Cheers

David

Hi

I think plog should be A4 so you enough space to write things on it and all numbers are big and easy to read with a short glance

rather then having to focus on them

I attached two files. a Skydemon plog and the one that I use. I prefer mine as it has many useful fields in additon

1. We need the Head (M) next to the Times or an empty row for Compas Headings.

--> You need the heading to stear and the time to next waypoint next to eachother as it taught in the flying school

2. there should be room to note Airfield, QNH, QFE, Runway, Squawk etc whenever you talk to a new station. There is plenty of room on the SkydemonPlog to make the additional boxes... (maybe optionally?)

3. I would also like room for the wind rose and deviation figures..so in case you you to redirect etc you have all figures ready.
