I use sky demon on mac and pc (mac via parallels and windows 7). My routes are exported as gpx onto an SD card, then uploaded onto MGL Odyssey (gen1) panels.

This all worked fine until a couple (maybe 3) months ago.

Now the routes won't import...whilst the panel says that the route has been imported, the route doesn't appear anywhere on the system.

I've checked and used routes that were saved before this problem started, and they are still uploaded successfully.

I've tested routes saved on PC and MAC, and neither work any more.

Has something changed in the last few months within skydemon that could be the cause of this?

I've bought new cards, but still no joy. The only thing that makes sense now is that skydemon is saving gpx routes slightly differently than it used to.
Hope you can help!

Sorry for the delay....was patiently waiting for the subcribe alert that a reply had been placed....no luck with that! ...reset and try again...

So, I've attached two files here....one from Little Snoring to Holly Meadow which was originally created Feb 2013, just copied from PC to SD card, uploaded here directly from the card.

The other route (Lt Snoring to Badminton) is a route from my cloud files which was generated today, saved to the SD card via parallels on Mac, then uploaded same as above.

Fingers crossed you can see something obvious!

Thanks

It would be better for us to confirm routes like-for-like, but the most obvious difference is that we now include the <ele> elevation element in the output, for devices that would like that included. Its presence certainly shouldn't break any recipient (that's the beauty of this format) but if you can export a new route exactly the same (geographically) as the old one which works, we can probably confirm. You may need to take it up with the vendor of the device you're trying to import into.

So, I've uploaded the same route exported and saved today through the present SkyDemon.

The MGL Odyssey panels (generation 1) are in quite a few aircraft flow by pilots using sky demon, so if the slight change in the format is the problem, other people must be affected in the same way. Unfortunately, I can't imagine MGL will rewrite the unit software for screens that are no longer produced (they have moved on a little since mine were made, 6 years ago).

If the Skydemon format is the cause, would there be a possibility of exporting to gpx with/without elevation data?

When importing, all looks fine in that it says the route has been imported, yet it can't then be found.

I'lll forward this thread to MGL just in case they can shed any light on it too.

Thanks.

Thanks. If you get in touch with us by email (ask for your email to be passed along to me) I can remove the elevation elements just to confirm it's those which your device is having difficulty with.

Unfortunately GPX is supposed to be XML based and therefore any failure of a device to cope with these extra attributes in a bug in that device. We can't really justify adding options into SkyDemon to work around bugs in older third-party devices, but there may well be an intermediate step you could take to work around the problem.
