Is there a note on how to use this feature properly? Ama complete novice on this vnav stuff. But I wd like to undertsand how it is supposed to work. One thing, how do you specify the runway, circuit and circuit dimensions at the destination airfield? Or is this not the intention?

The VNAV feature is currently just a means of seeing how your desired levels affect your top of climb and top of descent points on your journey. The feature will be expanded in future versions now that the foundations for it (the new flight simulation model) are complete. The main benefit right now is more accurate fuel/cost calculations and seeing how your aircraft's performance affects when you'll get to your desired levels enroute.

There isn't a way of specifying destination runway or circuit information in SkyDemon at present.

Ok. have just planned a route with various levels that avoid vertical airspace restrictions. I then switched to GPS simulator mode.

I expected to see planned heights was well as my "actual" height with a warning to climb/descend similar to being "off course" in 2D. Was that not the intent?

A further question.

Say you are planning a circular trip and plan to land at various airfields and then use others as waypoints. How do you deignate the airfields where you plan to land and so see these in en route features window?

Data from the vertical navigation model is not currently used in in-flight mode. In a future version it will be used to provide such alerts as you mentioned, "time to start your descent" etc.

SkyDemon does not currently support the notion of multiple sectors in one route file, but this is a feature that we are hoping will make the next version (after the forthcoming one).

Update: the next update will have a vnav feature like this. On Virtual Radar you can see your planned vertical levels overlaid on top of what you're actually doing, and it's easy to see whether you're above or below where you planned to be at any stage. You also receive alerts during flight when it's time to start a climb or descent. A new beta will be posted shortly.

Excellent news, well done, can't wait to have a play! any chance of SD putting the aircraft back in the hangar after each flight, would be very useful.

I'm not sure if we can do it in SkyDemon Mobile, because that software doesn't currently have the flight modelling engine that makes vnav (both in planning and in flight) possible.

Not sure I understand. Are you saying WinCE is unable to run the modelling engine or that you have not written the code to run the model on the WinCE platform. If the latter, am a bit miffed. While there is much "noise" re ipad version, my suspicion is that the WinCE userbase is many times larger than the ipad base.

Furthermore many of us do not want such a large object as an ipad in the cockpit.

So if WinCe will run it please implement on this platform.

Cheers
