Recently had a problem with satellite reception on my Nexus 7. Is an external bluetooth GPS a solution to this and if so any suggestions on what to purchase.

Garmin Glo is an excellent external GPS receiver, it works reliably on both Android and  Apple systems with the added benefit that it can supply GPS information to 4 devices at the same time.
