I have been looking at the evaluation version (new beta) and cant seem to find a way to add winds aloft other than manually.

PilotWizz for the iphone seems to have cracked this and gets the forecast winds aloft and adds it automatically to a route plan.

Is this a feature that exists or is planned for SkyDemon?

Difficult to see how much value this would add IMHO.

  1. You can get an idea of the winds aloft from Metoffice 215 (or is it 214) before you go.
  2. In flight difference between airspeed and groundspeed is a real time indicator.
  3. For me the more important figure is the windspeed and direction at your destination. Skydemon does give the latest info it has (if you sync it) both via Briefing page and on the plate of an airfield. Plus all airfields with ATC will give you this in the circuit. If no ATC radio call to nearest unit will help as well.
  4. I think one of the great things about Skydemon is the uncluttered nature of the maps  .. this wd materially clutter the screen.
  5. Even if it was there, pretty sure I wd not have it turned on in flight.

My view for what its worth.

David

PS Projected cloudbase (as per PFMS) is of much more value in my view for us VFR pilots!! That I wd value but perhaps on a separate vertical nav page.

We're talking with suppliers of both winds aloft and cloudbase forecasts about integrating these into SkyDemon.

I definitely agree that clarity of maps is one of the key features of SkyDemon.

As someone who is getting back into flying after a break of 8 years it was a revelation to see the SE corner of England with all the airspace restrictions above 3000ft removed.

I have just put PilotWizz on my iPhone and that has a look up for enroute winds which seems to work very well, it is just a option to the planning process to auto look up winds and the heading calcs are just ready to use.

I agree it doesnt take long to slot them in and I also agree a forecast cloud base foreward view would be an much much more useful feature.
