As we do not currently have a better source of roads and railways in Germany, we have annotated the option to turn them on and off (they are off by default) with the text "Not accurate for aeronautical use". Hopefully this will tell people that we know this data to be inaccurate, and reinforce that the other data IS accurate.

Group: Forum Members Posts: 38, Visits: 242	Hi Tim, you are completely right! They refer to wrong relations between roads/motorways and other visual references to the aeronautical data. I would agree that aeronautical data is correct but as it is a tool designed primarily for VFR flights it would be of paramount impartance that "outside" matches the moving map or vice versa. Even if the aeronautical data is correct I would like to know for visual reference whether a CTR boundary could be mapped along a motorway or not. As I said: Although SD is not for road navigation it is always helpful in VFR missions to have a very close matching between display and reality, that's what they are talking about. Don't get me wrong, I really like SD but one should know about the limitiations and I think the accuracy of all beside aeronautical data is this kind of limitation. Group: Forum Members Posts: 8.1K, Visits: 9.3K	I just read the entire thread linked above (via a translator) and can see no inaccuracies in the SkyDemon aeronautical database mentioned. Could someone please correct me if I am wrong? The only thing I see is the correct observation that sometimes our road data is offset from reality. If somebody in the SkyDemon office spoke German we would get involved in the thread, but unfortunately nobody here does.

Group: Forum Members Posts: 8.1K, Visits: 9.3K	Thousands of European pilots rely on SkyDemon as their sole chart every day, and we know of no inaccuracies in our aeronautical data. Road and railway data is sometimes inaccurate (slightly out of place) but SkyDemon is not intended to be used for road navigation. If you have specific feedback on our charts, this is the forum in which to share it (or contact us directly). A couple of people recently contacted us reporting "errors" in our Germany chart but they turned out to be incorrect. In fact it is often that national paper charts which are incorrect, and SkyDemon charts which are correct, since (among other things) ours are updated every 28 days.

I find SkyDemon a marvelous tool for flight planning, but I would not rely on the maps for actual flight (neither printed maps nor moving maps). In VFR navigation the exact location of roads, railways, shorelines, rivers etc, is crucial. Having e.g. a motorway junction on the wrong side of a railway or waterway could rapidly make the pilot lose situational awareness. Also, in my part of the world (Sweden) enough of this information is missing so that the maps couldn't be used for navigation even if they were entirely accurate.

Group: Forum Members Posts: 38, Visits: 242	Hi there, even if myself did not encouter severe issues within Germany yet there are some very bad vibrations on SD chart accuracy especially in Italian and German charts. Compared to physical ones there is a deviation between for example location of CTRs/ED-Rs/VFR routes and so on thus you cannot rely on that. You can find more detailed info in a German forum of the very well known magazine "Pilot und Flugzeug" unfortunately only in German language: https://www.pilotundflugzeug.de/forum/2014,01,31,21,3039439 It is worth reading it because many German pilots are building their opinion upon that and the most important thing of a moving map is accuracy in charts. I think articles like this one prevent thousands of potential users subscribing to SD. Therefore please focus on accuracy instead of features as the tool from that perspective is leading egde so far... Having that said I will always compare my tracks against physical charts and will report any inconsistence. Cheers, joseffe
