My son used my device on Friday and he told me that when flying SD showed his exact position on the chart but the aircraft symbol was orientated 90 degrees away from his track and the projected line in front of the aircraft pointed the same direction as the aircraft symbol. I thought the device was faulty (chinese no name) and I loaded the  software onto my 4.3 inch Airbox AWARE. and on his return flight it did the same thing. He was in a Strike master jet and travelled at approx 240 knots. his entire flight was West to East and then returning East to West, so the aircraft symbol pointed North on the 2nd trip and he can't remember  whether it was pointing North or South on the first trip because he just turned it off in frustration.  Could the speed make it do that? Any ideas? or some interference from the jet.

I used SD in a Boeing 737 at a cruising speed of 400 kts on several occasions. No such an issue was seen.

Runways, Yes, I have seen the other posts on that subject but something must have affected it for it to happen twice on two differents devices.

Perhaps a far fetched possibility , but could the device have a G sensor and the actual map was rotated?

I'll have to pass on the 'G' sensor idea.The device used on the second flight was the 4.3 inch Airbox AWARE with the track 'North Up. although he hadn't set a route on it he was just using it as a moving map. I've never encountered this problem myself but then again the fastest thing I fly is an Archer. But he has lost a bit of confidence with it happening twice.

Track-up setting but no route and aeroplane horizontal even in a no G sensor (Aware) set I would have been worried if the aeroplane's symbol was not horizontal, if I was flying due East or West, be it at 70Kts or 500Kts. The set would have defaulted to North up. Now, with that sorted, I would still be interested to know if the first set had a G sensor.

In the B737, at 400Kts the sets used had no G sensors, and all Chinese Cheap and Cheerful too. When no route was selected, the set defaulted to North-up regardless of the direction of flight. However, the aeroplane's symbol was always pointing to the correct direction relative to the map.

Runways, the first deice was a 5 inch chinese type identical to the latest Airbox Aware with the orange band on the outside and the 2nd device was the 4.3 inch device that I originally bought from Airbox when the AWARE first came onto the market. I don't really know what you mean about the 'G' sensor but because they are both basically cheap chinese devices I suspect that they don't have one. What device did you use in the B737

My apologies: The G sensor helps change the display orientation so the image is up-right when the screen is rotated. One of the sets I used is: http://www.chinavasion.com/portable-gps/cvuktr18/. I actually tried several from different suppliers. The one above is not very good in direct sunlight, but I find it satisfactory.

I think the original poster would have noticed that all the text was the wrong way round!

No 'G' sensor then!  Everything was as nornal except the aircraft symbol which had its port wing going in the direction of flight (west) and the extended line from the nose of the aircraft pointing North. Just as a further clue (or maybe not) The same device worked as normal when they flew the short distance from RAF Waddington to East Midlands airport in a Jet Provost about two hours earlier, it all went wrong whenthey changed to the Strikemaster.
