Could anyone tell me if it is possible to turn off the graphical display of NOTAMS in Skydemon Mobile? I can't find any option to do this.

I would like to be able to do so because the NOTAM shading/hatching (e.g. the extensive TMZ around Stansted) makes other chart features behind the shaded area indistinct. I'm running the v2.0 trial on a Mio 360 pda.

Yes it is possible. 2 ways as far as I can see.

  1. Do not bother to sync from PC and provided any previous NOTAMs are out of date, they will no show up on screen.
  2. But if you have synced and there are NOTAMs with long life (eg through April around Stansted, then go to Briefing, NOTAMs and the Filter. Extend the from to dates to 2012. That will exclude all bit those with a life >1 year. BUT this wd be impossible to do in flight. Remember also that it will almost certainly NOT give you any visual alerts for NOTAMs taht do actually matter!

Comment

Suspect this is very hardwate dependent. On units I have the NOTAM shading does not make it difficult to see other things. Also if you are flying a given route and the planning has been done OK, then I rarely look at the 2d map features  .. just ensure I am flying the track and also that I am out of controlled airspace vertically unless I have ATC permission.

Conversely when bimbling around locally then the visual NOTAM warnings are very useful indeed  .. and here I have been taken by suprprise. At the same time because I am bimbling, I am fairly aware of the locality and looking at the map does not happen much!

Conclusion

For me please keep it the way it is and for those who really want to suppress NOTAMS, let them go through the process above.

Cheers

D

Thanks. I hadn't worked out the filter solution. I agree it isn't much of a problem, but it is just a bit annoying to have the hatching for that particular notam around Stansted constantly clogging up the chart, given that is my local area!
