The pre-order button has now been activated for the highly anticipated GPS unit from SkyDemon.

It is a 4.3 inch (diagonal) touchscreen device with adaptive brightness display. More detailed spec details can be found at:

A chart for comparison with other GPS devices on the market is located here:

Bob,

Could you please add "Aware" to the comparison table, for the sake of completeness? Many thanks.

Hi

I am using a 5 in Windows XP unit which is very handy, 1GB RAM, Intel Atom processor and it runs Skyplan, It has integrated GPS and also a car holder available.

It is a Viliv S5 . There is also a 7 inch version available. I agree 7 inch is more userfriendly size, but maybe hard to fit in the plane.

I flew with the viliv a few times and no issues. I have most maps turned on, it is reasonable fast, the display could be a littler brighter for direct sunshine - but i could read it every time. Battery last around 6 hrs depending on use.

Check it out on: http://uk.dynamism.com/notebooks/viliv-x70.shtml

@runways

We did initially look at the Aware with a view to putting it into the comparison chart, but concluded that it doesn't really count as a GPS navigation device (Its really more of a warning system than anything). I suppose that the newer "+" upgrade does give it some GPS functionality, so I shall give your suggestion some consideration.

@screetch

While the device that you suggest is mildly interesting, this thread is not really for discussion about third party devices. There are other threads available for "What device could I run SkyDemon on?" topics.
