I need some help. I have downloaded the latest version of the SkyDemon app for iPad.

Having created a short route and I have saved it, then used the e-mail function to send to my PC via Outlook.

I receive two files, a .flightplan and a .txt file both of which I copied to my SkyDemon folder c:\documents\skydemon\routes.

I open SkyDemon on my PC and find the route I have just saved and click to open , but nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong?

Just in case it helps solve my problem, I have just looked at the flight plan exported by my iPad and one created on the PC using Wordpad.

The working flightplan from the PC looks like a script with a line for each item. The file from the iPad seems to have strung all the instructions into one line.

I tested the "e-mail flight plan option" from my iPad to my PC. On opening the e-mail on my PC and double clicking the attached flight plan, SD opened automatically and with the route displayed on my PC version.

Maybe I have misunderstood your issue, but the e-mail I sent contains only one file - the flight plan.

Not too sure if this helps.

Hugh

I can also confirm having transferred both ways that it works fine. Actually, better than fine, brilliant infact!

Hi guys and thanks for your input.

The reason for two files appearing is that the .txt file is one saying "sent from my iPad"

This morning I deleted and re-installed the Sky Demon app to double check I was up to date.

The same result today with the flightplan not opening.

I will send an e-mail to Tim Dawson to see what he suggests.

Latest update.

The problem was caused by not having the latest version of SkyDemon PC v 2.3

Now that I have updated that I can open the files from my iPad.

I have yet to understand how to reverse that process which GAXOR says is possible, so help needed please!

Cheers

Hi Paul,
  • Attach your PC flight plans (xxx.flightplan files) to an email addressed to yourself (or whichever mail account you can collect from the iPad).
  • Open the email in your iPad mail application and you will see the attached files.
  • Tap one of the xxx.flightplan files and you will see message Open In "SkyDemon"
  • Tap again and voilà the route will open in SD.
  • You can now "Save As" within SD iPad to name and save your route.
Hope that helps. :-)

Continuing my voyage of discovery with my new iPad, I find that this e-mailing of routes has some interesting limitations, for me at least.
  1. If you attach more than one route file to your e-mail SD will only open the first one.
  2. My mail client (Thunderbird) sends the file as in-line text rather than as an attachment, which is useless. I have to use webmail to send the attachment. This is obviously an issue with my mail client rather than with SD. It may be that I really ought to update my very old version of Thunderbird!
Soon, very soon, I shall have to take this beast flying!
