Captain Solo, is this just wishful thinking, or do you have some insider information?

Apple is likely to launch a 7.85-inch iPad prior to the fourth quarter of 2012 in addition to a new iPad scheduled to be released at the end of the first quarter, according to sources in the supply chain.

Global shipments of tablet PCs are expected to reach 60 million units in 2011, of which 70% will be Apple's iPads. To cash in on market demand as well as market expectations, Apple is expected to release its next-generation iPads at the end first-quarter 2012, said the sources.

However, in order to cope with increasing market competition including the 7-inch Kindle Fire from Amazon and the launch of large-size smartphones from handset vendors, Apple has been persuaded into the development of 7.85-inch iPads, the sources indicated.

In addition to purchasing 7.85-inch panels from LG Display, Apple will also buy panels from AU Optronics (AUO), indicated the sources, adding that makers in the supply chain are likely to begin production of the 7.85-inch models at the end of the second quarter of 2012.

This is good news. Our prayers this Christmas may be answered next Christmas. Provided no hiccups or overheating problems are encountered I look forward. In the interim I am looking at he possibility of getting a set with a transreflective touch screen direct from Korea.

Hello Pink Leader, Apologies for not getting back sooner. Not found a suitable unit from Korea yet. Most of the websites I encountered were in Korean and were sparse on English. I have a Korean friend who is assisting in scanning & translating some GPS selling websites to English. She assures me that "if it can be made, you'd find it Korea!".

I will keep you posted once a suitable set is found. In the meantime, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.

If SkyDemon eventually works on iPhone/iPad?

Do all iPhones have the same GPS and is it based on cellular network triangulation etc. Not a proper GPS?

Thanks

All iPhones and 3G iPads have proper GPS units.

The suggestion that they don't is an urban legend perpetrated by people who do not properly understand what AGPS is.

Basically if your device has network access, it improves the time to first fix by downloading the GPS almanac instead of waiting for it to trickle down from the satellites.

If you have no network access, then they are a bit slow to get a fix, but once they do, the performance is good.

Thanks for that, really interesting. Just need it working on SkyDemon now. Think the screen size will be OK to be going on with. If I had an iPad and iPhone, how would I manage the SIM cards? Can you clone it so long as only one is switched on or do you need to constantly change the SIM. I'm thinking about upgrading to iPhone 4 and maybe an iPAD later. Assume they will both have the identical Micro SIM I think its called?

I'd just leave the SIM in the phone and enable personal hotspot.
