Hello fellow SD'ers
I am playing with the trial version of SD and it looks very good.
Not used it in anger yet, but I'm trying to find out if I 'really' need a live internet connection at the airfield or while flying?
At the moment I'd prefer to do the planning at home, then take the 15min drive to the field and go fly...without the faff / distraction of internet or trying to find wireless connection.
Thanks,
Deker.

You can plan a route anywhere at any time, and save it locally, without an internet connection. You only need an internet connection to download the latest weather and NOTAM, or to upload/download a route to/from the cloud. Some pilots find a 4G connection in the air useful for updating weather en-route, but it's not essential.

I do most of my planning at home (on a laptop) and then save the route to the SkyDemon cloud.
Before leaving home I then download the route from the SkyDemon cloud to my Android tablet and Samsung Galaxy phone.
At my home airfield, should I have forgotten to download the route, I find it can take 30-60 seconds to download if you have poor cellphone data coverage. A bit annoying if one is getting ready to swing the prop!

Mike, Tony,

Thanks for the replies.
It was after talking with a chap at the field who said that he needs internet (I think he must of been referring to WX and NOTAM updates) and that SD originally asked me initially initially login (requiring internet) that made me think that an internet connection was required for use.

I now see that the login must be to do with the SD licensing, once logged in on your tablet / PC, a ' licence token' is stored.
Only when you log out of SD on a particular device, the token is removed and would then need internet to renew token and get SD running again on that device.
I guess that's so SD HQ can limit the number of devices that I can run SD concurrently, but gives me the flexibility of  which devices if I was to have more than four! .....fair enough.
After playing with the demo version, I have now the full SD subscription :-)
Having recently regained my PPL after a 10 year break, I only wish we had SD back then- its superb.

Thanks again, Deker.
