Hi all - apologies if this has been raised before. I have been entering a load of First World War way points into skydemon - some go in fine - others are blatantly changed after I save the way point for example the Lochnagar Mine Crater at N50 00 971 E 002 41 841 - I enter it in the format that SD likes N500097 and E00241841 and save. As you can see from the screen shot - (crater 1) something totally different gets saved. I had a quick look on the map where the waypoint I and there was no crater - just a peaceful felid! Does anybody have any suggestions?!

Thanks so much in advance

N50 00 971 E 002 41 841 are degrees and decimal minutes, not degrees, minutes and seconds.

So if you enter into Skydemon as:-

N5000.971 and E00241.841, it works correctly:-

Regards,

Steve

Many thanks Steve - I am still having the same problem even when I copy your points and paste them in, the same incorrect different grid reference appears - I'll send you a screen shot when I have wifi. But this reference keeps on coming up : N500058 E0024150

Those are correct - it's working as it should.

N50 00 971 E 002 41 841
-->
N 50 00 (0.971*60) = 58
E 002 41 (0.841*60) = 50

SkyDemon accepts your decimal degree and then subsequently displays them as Degrees, Minutes and Seconds.

If all your co-ordinates are in Degrees and Decimal Minutes, you either need to convert them first (as above), or enter them with the decimal point and let SkyDemon do it for you.

You need to make sure that your source data is consistent as well. Imagine you had a co-ordinate where the decimal part was less than 60 - SkyDemon would then interpret that incorrectly.

So for example N 50 00 59 would be accepted as you enter it, but that would actually be in the wrong place as:-

N 50 00 (0.59*60) = 35 - so 24 'seconds' out (almost half a mile)

Your point has (according to google maps) the following coordinates

50°00'55.8"N
2°41'50.8"E

You have to insert this in Skydemon as:
N500055.8
E0024150.8

Notation in degrees and decimal fractions of degrees
50.015507,
2.697448

I don't know how you got different co-ordinates to me? The original poster's co-ordinates worked perfectly (you can see that from my two screenshots).

I got the coordinates from google maps. Maybe they are not that precise.
N50°00,971' equals N50°00'58,26", which is at google earth at the parking place 70m north of the middle of the crater. For me, the middle of the crater has N50°00'55,90" which is N50°00,933'
Don't to much about the differences between the models Skydemon and google are using

Got you. Maybe the OP's co-ordinates are actually for the car park. It makes sense!
