Suggestion for improved ruler feature

I continue to be amazed at the way SD incorporates new features in an intuitive way which doesn't clutter up the user interface or requires me to study manuals. Well done, guys!

One thing I noticed with the new "ruler" feature is the determination of which end of it is "red" and which is "green": the south-westerly is red and the north-easterly is green. On the cross section view the red end is always on the left side. Furthermore, the legend on the ruler is shown upside down when flying from north-east to south-west.

This results in an awkward situation: half of the time your course is represented right to left on the cross section view and the labels on the ruler are upside down.

Here is a suggestion which improves on that situation. Instead of bringing up the ruler when two fingers touch simultaneously, make it so that one finger touches slightly later, say half a second. This, then, defines a direction: going from the first finger to the second finger. Knowing the direction you could orient the ruler so that the green end is my departure point (first finger) and the red end is the destination point (second finger). You then show the labels so that they are right side up when going from green to red. And you can have the proper directionality also in the cross section view.

As far as I can tell there is no resulting ambiguity in the user interaction if you make the time interval between the two touches for the ruler shorter than the time for a single tap which brings up the waypoint/airspace window.

Greetings, -- Chris.

That's actually how we were going to do it, but it turns out that the finger timings are not easily accessible to us on the iPad.
