Hi,
i´am checking out for some pilots mobile VFR navigation software. The market has interesting movements.
Actually i´am simulating different situations on the trail versions.
SkyDemon ask me to place one request here in the forum, to see how your reactions are.Have a look at this situation:
Planning some trips in the next two days. Some going in other countries, some to small airfield. Not everywhere a WLAN access is available or i do not want to pay a fortune roaming costs using my mobile phone to download MB´s. But i have to do it, when using SkyDemon.
Having done a fine flightplanning with some informations along my planned trips, as plates for alternates, everything is available on the IPad, until the IPAD or the program is turned off or another planned routing is being used. Going back to another route, i have only the plates on the IPad for the point of departure, destination and, if i did so, other airfields are used as waypoints. All other plates are not longer available.
My proposal for a good use should be:
- All plates i loaded down on my IPad should be there, until a connection to SkyDemon will inform my IPad, that a new plate for a stored one will be available and SkyDemon will replace that automatically.
- Notams and MET-information should be also stored on the IPad until the next connection to WLAN & SkyDemon is available. The responsibility using old NOTAMS and MET Information is still and for ever in the hands of the using pilots. Many other free and non-free software for mobil solutions for NOTAMS and MET do it this way, storing the data until a "Reload button" is being pressed.
I hope i explained my remarks understandable and hope to find supporters for that improvement. Jeppesen published some weeks ago in a internet conference a new Jeppview FD IPad version for the third quarter 2012 including all their european VFR-GPS items.
Until today i believe SkyDemon could be than still the leader in this market, because as i understood in that Jepp-Internet-Conference, that Jeppesen will go more in the direction availability of data, maps and planning. Navigation as SkyDemon is offering with all that nice items, seems to be not on Jepps to-do-list.
