Mountain Passes as Custom Data?

Hello

Knowing mountain passes and their altitude is of importance for flying safe in moutainous regions.

Skydemon charts have a very nice dedicated symbol for mountain passes: )·(
This data is only available in countries that publish mountain passes on their aeronautical charts: Switzerland, Austria (*) and bordering northern Italia.

(*) After a 2017 request, Skydemon team made them selectable Smile At this time, I believe only Switzerland passes were included.  Following another topic in 2022, more mountains passes were added in Austria, because they were published in Aeronautical Chart VISUAL 500 from the DFS. Smile

I often fly in the French Alps, and as far as I know, French aeronautical charts do not include mountain passes Sad
From what I see in Skydemon, the passes of the Pyrenees or the Carpathians are not included either.

I've added French and/or Italian mountain passes which matter me most as personal waypoints, which is already nice.
But this method lacks the added value of the dedicated symbol, specifically:
  1. the rotation of the symbol to represent the axis (heading) of the mountain pass
  2. the accompanying 2-line legend (1st line: Name of the pass, 2nd line: Elevation of the pass) and sometimes 3rd data "Min Alt" (for planning purposes), e.g. Simplon / 6578ft / 8300ft

Would other pilots who regularly fly in the mountains support a request to the Skydemon team to add "Mountain Pass" as a new category (using the dedicated symbol) of Custom Data in Skydemon?
  • This would benefit pilots flying in the mountains outside of the countries/regions already covered.
  • This could also benefit pilots flying in the mountains in the countries/regions already covered, by allowing them to add more "local" mountain passes not included in the aeronautical publications.
  • Obviously this would require pilots to add Mountain Passes themselves, but we can always share a .csv file once made.

  • Also, this would be much better (in my opinion) than other solutions like "just" adding the dedicated symbol to the list of those available for user waypoints (because it would lack the "axis/heading" representation).

Kind regards,
Clement
