+xAlright people, if we can push this thread to at least 3 or 4 pages, hopefully our request will be heard π Sadly, it seems hard to blow this up to 3/4 pages It would be great to be able to overlay the PDF charts I get from the club, but honestly, my spatial awareness is good enough that I can switch to the PDF with the tablet in flight and navigate just fine. On the other hand, pretty sure the developer would be able to do this with ease, so not sure why this is not considered...
Oh well!

I have seen this request made multiple times already, and each time the response is "this is not an often requested feature", so I am not sure what you consider "often requested". Especially considering the responses here I would say there is definitely an interest.

I support the request for an import of custom user charts. For my use case, it should be possible to assign them to an airfield and to access them via the context menu of the airfield, just like the built-in/purchased approach charts.

Maybe it helps to mention that even the StratuxEU OpenSource solution got .mbtiles capability to overlay any custom charts with v25?

Can you make an option to upload georeferenced charts into SD just like in ForeFlight?

a lot of people need this feature.
don't ignore us, please!

I'm still not losing hope that it will happen some day π

Especially considering the responses here I would say there is definitely an interest. Right. Could there be a conflict of interest since the alternative would be to buy the charts via SD? Maybe SD wants to push sales of the charts... but I'm not going to pay again for charts when I am entitled to them via my flying club, just to have them overlaid... what a pity.
This feature would be so important here in Germany, where there is no free AIP VFR. I find it absolutely unfortunate that I pay for the AIP and then I should pay for the charts in Skydemon again. It would be very helpful to include a georeferenced map yourself via the XML file (or another feature).

Unless if by getting the VFR AIP in SkyDemon we also have access to all the other parts of an AIP (GEN, ENR, AIC and SUP).

Can it even be a valid AIP according to international rules and laws not being accessible for everybody?
For the custom charts I understand the software mechanics is already in place, Skydemon would only have to assign a custom PlateID range, which they so far refuse to do - correct?

It's not only the German VFR AIP which not available for free, but here I have no idea about the legality of it. I know I have access to it via my club membership and that's good enough for me.

I have no experience with the German setup though, but for Switzerland the AIP is available in SkyDemon for free and the (whole, not only airport plates!) SkyGuide VFR manual as an additional subscription. I guess that's the case for Germany as well: AIP for free, DFS charts for a fee. Isn't that how it works?

Bring the MBTiles file support, pleeease!
I just don't understand why it's a such a big deal... Just leave it to people and let them decide whever they want to import their data or not. Even Foreflight inside the walled Apple's garden support this (when they usually like to act like dictators and command to an end-user what's the best way of using iOS software):

MBTiles would be perfect and yes I do use that on other solutions, but for me it would be also ok to use the current georef method with simple PDF.

It will also be a great idea to add custom comments section for existing objects on a map. For example, to define what frequency is in use at an aerodrome at a particular time or direction of flight (because in SD there are duplicate frequencies like RADAR 1, RADAR 2, without further explanations compared to AIP, like you should contact at least 20NM out), describing a navaid functionality (min/max working altitude) or just whatever you deem appropriate to include.
I think it's not overly complicated to implement this, but it adds a lot of flexibility to have your own notes without creating additional objects on a map and make it more messy.

Another good thing in addition to that would be a gps-location based reminder (w/ altitude). Just like the current airspace warnings, but it would show your message instead.

Yes, please +1.
At our club, we are given the PDF version of the VFR charts in our country, but not being able to import them to SkyDemon is a big inconvenience. There's the possibility to buy them in SkyDemon, but I don't really want to buy something that I already have... so I end up just opening up the PDF with the tablet and using it as I would a paper chart... not so nice! Would be great to be able to import it somehow!

Could anyone setup an example of how it could look like in SkyDemon? I personally have entered pdf documents for some ICAO airport with information for the specific airport. So when planning a flight involving the airport I check this information. In flight I can access this information before approaching the airport. Problem is that this information can get outdated.

It is that time of the year when I think we should gauge again the appetite for the import of geo-referenced custom charts.
This is the one single feature a lot of us are still missing and would find extremely valuable. ForeFlight now has it for multiple years and people over there are using it a lot. @Tim: you may find that not only a significant part of your current users are interested into this but also that many users of other apps may be inclined to switch to SD when this becomes available.
Letβs push this to the top of the stack!
