Support multiple data sources so users can see Traffic and Weather - GDL weather, METAR, Traffic, Flarm-based bearingless (mode c/a)

After a discussion with Tim on this thread I've posted the summary of a Feature Request for the collective wisdom to comment on......

  • PilotAware are now uplinking METAR data from the ATOM/GRID network, this means METAR data is available in the air for your EFB
  • In addition Golze provides FIS services such as in-flight Weather

For SD both of these can be provided over GDL90, unfortunately GDL90 has no support for Bearingless targets.
In SD there is currently a binary choice of GDL90 -OR- FLARM, so either you lose METAR/Weather or Bearingless data

It would be perfect if SD was able to listen to both formats providing the user with a combination of
GDL90 (Traffic, GPS, METAR, TAF, Weather)
FLARM (Bearingless)


In this case you'd have SD with everything available from a combined Golze/PAW solution for traffic and data but it would also allow other vendors to bring innovation to the market, and for SD to be the EFB of choice for it's display

I'd add that the proposal is that SD controls what data types in consumes from each format - to prevent contradictory data coming in .e.g. only a single source is used for GPS/ownship etc.
