Blue/black circle around aircraft while navigating

Hi forum,

recently I did some testflights using X-Plane to become familiar with SD. During navigation over water I saw this blue/black circle around the aircraft. Is it the "circle around the point of no return" when overflying water? And if yes: is it specified with the "glide-ratio" parameter?

How embarrassing, now I´m a victim of the "rtfm"-subject. ;-)  Now I read the manual and my horizon became a bit wider...
